“Although I must admit that sometimes obeying God’s commandments forces us to make heart changes.” — that’s something I didn’t get a chance to address in my post. I think it’s true, but understanding how behavior and the heart are connected is a tricky thing.

We may set out to behave in some way, or to avoid behaving in some way, because we think that it is what God wants of us — and if we succeed we may think that this was a sort of outward working in. But what would move us to want to behave correctly in the first place? Only an inward change could be responsible.

Or maybe I’m thinking of this in too simple of terms. In any event, I’m filled with joy when I think about the fact that God is so much bigger than us. And I think He is pleased when we seek to understand Him more.
